Crank Vents solve the problem of smoking and pressure buildup in the engine during boost due to pressure entering thru the PVC valve. These devices are one-way valves that can stop 1000psi. The big one goes between the manifold and PVC valve (shown on left) to stop boost from entering the engine.  The small one goes on the valve cover vent to pump air out (not in), building a vacuum in the crankcase. This results in more horsepower (stop pumping air below the piston).  If your dip stick pops out under boost, this problem may be cured also.

If you plan to "dump" or vent your BOV to atmosphere (instead of recycling into the Turbo) while using your stock MAS,  you will encounter some problems.   The DSM MAS measures air going thru it and the ECU (car's computer) calculates the amount of fuel to add.  If you "dump" this air instead of re-circulating it into the intake, the computer will add too much fuel and you'll probably see a puff of black smoke behind you.  Also since the RPM drops FAST, if you leave the clutch in too long, your ECU may not be able to pick up idle and the engine may die.  Before you buy a BOV that "dumps" (HKS SSV, Turbo XS, Tial or Apex'i),  we recommend you try "dumping" on your car with your present BOV by  removing the BOV recirc hose, plugging the intake return tube with a film can or covering with duct tape, and drive the car.

1g DSM BOV (Air Bypass Valve) Leak Stop Kit


Overview



5 Times better sealing than a crushed BOV  -  See test data page  Many new DSM BOV's leak boost pass the valve stem. This modification seals this leak when over 15psi.     
To seal we want no boost pressure under the BOV diaphragm until the TB closes - then we want full boost to open the valve.  The solution is:

1-drill and tap a hole in the side of the BOV flange to intersect the small hole in the valve's flange bottom (which goes vertically to the underside of the diaphragm), insert a 1/8" hose fitting and seal the hole in the flange bottom with a 10-32nf set screw.

2- now we have to switch the pressure to this fitting between atmospheric pressure when manifold pressure = boost, and boost pressure when manifold pressure drops.  We do this with a small 3-way - pilot pressure operated valve, using the manifold pressure to operate the pilot. (activate the valve) It requires 15psi to switch.  So with pilot (manifold) pressure less than 15psi the valve sends boost pressure (from a tap in the intercooler piping) to the underside of the diaphragm to operate it normally, and at boost over 15psi the valve switches, venting the diaphragm's underside and sealing the BOV. 

Leak Stop Kit  The kit consists of a valve (which can mount under the hood on the inner fender next to the passenger fuse box), all fittings and hoses to connect up to your BOV Picture shows the blue valve and hoses connected to a 1g DSM BOV.
